Member of the Worship, Faith and Order Committee

Come and help us think about worship, faith, and order!

We are looking for up to three new members of the Worship, Faith and Order Committee which General Assembly has established to address issues of worship, faith and order on behalf of the 91º£½ÇÂÒÂ×.  The Committee participates in, and responds to, ecumenical and inter-faith discussions, advises Assembly (and its officers and Committees) on questions about worship, faith and order and listens to concerns on these matters from Synods and individuals.  The Committee, from time to time, publishes material relating to worship, faith and order and has oversight of the 91º£½ÇÂÒÂ× Worship Book, sometimes setting up working parties to develop new material or revise the book.  It acts as a sounding board for the Minister for Digital Worship and oversees the resources he curates and creates.  It receives reports from the 91º£½ÇÂÒÂ× Spirituality Group.

The Committee meets once a year in person, normally an overnight meeting (usually in February), and online two or three times a year depending on the work under consideration.  Members serve for a four-year term, which can be renewed.  There may be opportunities in future to represent the 91º£½ÇÂÒÂ× on the equivalent committees of partner denominations.  The post is voluntary and expenses are paid.

You will be a member of the 91º£½ÇÂÒÂ× with a good knowledge of Reformed tradition and theology – especially as received and practised in the 91º£½ÇÂÒÂ× and its antecedent traditions.  You will have an understanding of worship and liturgy in the Reformed tradition acknowledging the balance between order and freedom.  You should have knowledge of 91º£½ÇÂÒÂ× governance structures, or a willingness to learn about them, and an appreciation of Reformed liturgy, prayer and worship resources.  You should be able to work collaboratively with a diverse range of people, express complex theological ideas clearly both orally and in writing and have good IT skills so as to be able navigate MS Office, Zoom, and email.  We particularly welcome applications from Elders and lay people.

For more details please contact Robert Pope, [email protected], Convenor or Lindsey Brown, [email protected], co-Secretary.

Closing date for applications: 12 noon, Friday 22 May 2026
